UPDATE: Nayib Bukele, the President of El Salvador once again announced the purchase of more Bitcoin bringing the countries total to 700 bitcoin.
@nayibbukele took to Twitter to announce that the country now holds 700 bitcoin.
FURTHER UPDATE: El Salvador publicly announced the purchase of an addtional 150 bitcoin on September 7th 2021.
The next day the President of El Salvador announced the third purchase of an additional 150 bitcoin, bringing the countries holdings to a total of 550 bitcoin o September 7, 2021. This was a strong, bold action taking advantage of the market conditions and decline in price on that day. September 7th was also dubbed as #BitcoinDay in recognition of the historic achievement of Bitcoin becoming legal tender.
UPDATE: A few hours later he announced the second purchase of an additional 200 bitcoin, bringing the countries holdings to a total of 400 bitcoin.
El Salvador President Nayib Bukele announced on September 6th, 2021 that the country had purchased its first 200 bitcoin. El Salvador is the first nation-state to publicly state that they purchased and own BTC. This purchase is part of El Salvador’s plan to make Bitcoin legal tender. The law was passed earlier this year in Congress and becomes official tomorrow September 7th, 2021.
President Bukele posted the following on Twitter:
